Update 28: [2:40 AM] Rea: if you think about it, Thierry's much like Zero, and Emmett's much like X, and

...Puah! Oh, that's good stuff, doc.
Oh, you flatter me.
No, seriously. This is the best cherry tart I've had in a while.
It's preferable to hardtack and gorp, that's for sure...
Aheh, thank you. It certainly doesn't stack up to Valerie's cooking, and especially not Rosa's, but I do try.
Maybe you should try cooking more! It might raise spirits; gods know we could certainly use it.
...Hrm. There's an idea.
IT IS ALMOST 7 AM ON THE DOT!
Wow, I don't think I've ever seen Quixote be impatient.
Ah, he's got a point, though. Let me just get my hammer... Hrup!
...How can he even lift that?
Maybe he's stronger than we can see with the coat in the way?

Give me power.
Hm?
...I don't know. That just felt right to say.

Couldn't hurt to upgrade Momoe to a Lacy Hide.

Anyway, let's begin.

The floor subtitle's maybe a little dramatic, in my opinion. Don't take that as the floor being easy, though.
The gimmick here is a bit strange, but it's not as bad as the encounters.

Well, I certainly don't see any other way forward...

Oh boy.
Before you start worrying too much, B19F isn't a teleporter maze, per se. Activating a teleporter sends you to a set point elsewhere in the floor, in the direction you are facing. Teleporters can also only be activated from one direction.

Not again.

Oh, so that's how it is...
Accursed fish...
There but for the love of Siggy go I...

Y̜͡o̢̠̣͚̣ͅͅu͓̻͓̯͚͚̲'̘͍̣͚̱́v͎̘͟é̥͉͉̭̣ ̧͔̝̻w͍̙̕o̻̮n̴̦̣͇ ̗̫̪̘̜̀t̶̨̟̩h̸͎̘̖̩̟̪̙ͅe͓̫͉̹̩͕͜͝ ̱͔͉͍͜g̝̦̤̥̕ạ̘̘̜̮͔͇m̨͏̩̗͈̫̗e̸̵̦͙ ͎̮b̷̛͉̝̠̭̩̟̞͇y͏̜̣̮ ̻̦̖̗k̀͏̳̙͖͇͕i̡̛̯͇̕ĺ̶̩̗̱̝l̷̡̦͎í̜̕n̛͇̝̰͇͜͞g͎͙̫̗͉͙͟͞ ̻͍͚͖̜͉͇͈̤́̕m̴̜̩͘e̛̮͝ͅ,͕̀͘ ͉̳̼̪̩͈̣Q̸̥̥̬̬͉̜̣̪ų͚i͏̬̲͈͘x̕͝҉̺̠͚̗̝̬̬o̭̻̼͢t̨̤̪̜͕͈̤͚ͅę͇̗̭̹͢.̨̭̞͎̘̱̖̥.̸͏̬͕̟̗̜̫͡.̭̳̫̣̣̘͇͚̦́͠
Yeah, that's how things tend to go on this floor.

So what happened this time?
Fish that live in the sand and smack us with their fins. Them plus two fairies ambushed us.
The Labyrinth you're exploring sounds really dumb.
I'm not going to dispute that.

Faeries are Pixies but infinitely worse. They can disable head skills, which is considerably more dangerous than disabling arm skills, and worst of all, can petrify party members very reliably. Bring along a lot of Theriaca As to B19F.

In retrospect, I probably should've had Thierry keep at least a few levels of Refresh around...
These things are awful! They can also be encountered alongside Pixies! Hurray!

Elowen deals appreciable damage to Faeries and Pixies... Buuuuuuuut it's not enough to oneshot them.

Which leads to that. Note that was actually very quick; third in the turn order, after Elowen and Momoe. That's...incredibly annoying.

Unbuffed, Forest Soldiers' attacks...aren't much to write home about.

Attack Thierry: still better than he has any right to be.

Okay, please stop doing that.

I get out of the battle fine...aside from a petrified Judith and a petrified Elowen.

I kinda had to run back to town because of that. This...isn't really gonna be enough, probably, but...

Captivating exploration!

Okay, that's a super pretty pearl color. That mantis doesn't know what it's got.
But what if it does? What if it sells parts of its armor to make jewelry?

Also, Thierry can outspeed them with Anaesthetic. Which is, y'know, nice.

Good night.

I'm not quite sure why, but there's a...shortcut?...here.

That...was too close.
I didn't even see that thing.
Meet Diabolix. She rotates her direction clockwise every turn, and will aggro on you if your position is visible in a straight line from her current direction.

Okay, that paintbrush-shell-staff is pretty cool.

I believe we have greater worries than that!

Forest Druids are scary to go up against. All-party elemental damage and a 40% defense debuff makes both themselves and any other enemy with offensive skills far scarier.

This encounter could be far worse, though, because there are two Faeries instead of two other enemies that could damage me.
These enemies are real nasty enablers. Don't underestimate their own damage either; it adds up really fast.

I'm limiting the weight of my strikes as much as possible, but I hope I'm not limiting it too much...

ez

Oh, hey, the sister of that other one.
On the right of the screen is Cruella, the counterpart to Diabolix. Her pattern, if you can call it that, is far simpler: she just stands still, facing one direction. She will only aggro on you if you enter a line in the direction she's facing, much like Diabolix.

I'm not the only one who just heard a whipcrack, right?
Run!

Right, yeah. If you aggro a Cruella or Diabolix, all other Cruellas and Diabolixes in that room will aggro on you too.

That eerie cackling is going to haunt me...
Don't let it get to you. We've probably got more coming up.
Do not remind me.

This really isn't that unique a floor, I just have to save a lot of screenshots because otherwise it'd be easy to lose track of how I get to a given point.

Guarding a gathering site with an FOE? ...That's actually very smart...

I didn't take this, but this teleporter leads to a sort of...back-alley area of the floor. It leads to the mirrored version of this room on the other side, eventually.

You pick it up and inspect it, finding that it is, in fact, an eggshell. What's more, there are countless others scattered about... The evidence seems to point to a bird's nest somewhere nearby. If the birds happen to be at home, then you could be in great danger... But if not, this may be an opportunity to come away with an invaluable prize. You must decide on the best course of action here...
Don't take chances when we have two people petrified.
I decided to not take the chance since, well, that.
You abandon the bird's nest in favor of returning to your investigation.

In fact, I was out of Theriaca As, so I had to retreat back to town at this point.
Nikkari (+141 ATK) is made from 1 Nyx Scythe (Death Mantis normal). Costs 22100 en.

Okay, one not-so-great part of this floor is that, due to the lack of any real shortcuts, if you have to retreat back to town, you have to trek through the entire floor again.

Okay, this should be easy, just stay out of that one's direct sight...

Don't walk left don't walk left don't walk--

Quixote--!
I thought you said walk left!

Pahhh, gah, hah, hah...

        • Else, use standard targeting.
      • Else, Attack.
  • Curse: Attempts to inflict curse on all enemies. Slightly slow.
  • Curse: Attempts to inflict curse on all enemies. Has an 80% speed modifier at all levels.
Drops:
  • Normal: Purple Thread. 90% chance. Sells for 2000 en.
    • Nine Tails (+109 ATK, +2 TEC, +2 AGI): Made from 1 Purple Thread. Costs 13600 en.
  • Conditional: Rose Whip (Kill while legs are bound). 100% chance. Sells for 9000 en.
    • Dominator (+177 ATK, +30 HP, +1 min Boost gain, +0.5 max Boost gain): Made from 1 Vine Strand (Cruella conditional) and 1 Rose Whip (Diabolix conditional). Costs 136000 en.
Of the two dominatrix FOEs, Diabolix is the less threatening one, though not by much. Cruella has access to panic instead of curse...which is about the only practical difference between the two.
Both of these FOE types are pretty bad. They'll essentially both hit like trucks regardless of what attacks they use.

Don't try anything funny, 'kay?
That'll help.

NO MERCY! RAAAAAGH! CHAAARGE! NON-LETHALLY!

...I guess the arrow getting stuck in the trees works too.

Tsk-tsk, told you.

Oh well.

WHIPS ARE THE LEAST THREATENING WEAPON IN EXISTENCE AND NONE OF US ARE THREATENED BY YOU!

GET READY, GENTLEMAN AND LADY!

WE'LL MAKE THIS AS NON-LETHAL AS POSSIBLE!

...I was so sure getting worked up would prevent that...
I mean, it worked for us.

One turn.
Besides the Medic tactic, this is how i did damage in EOU. It's fantastically effective.

I had to check and make sure I wasn't on Picnic or something.

Success! Yes! I can't believe that worked!
That's the most excited I've ever seen you, Elowen.
...Ahem. Apologies.

Enjoy the nap, lady.

Minor skill levels! Yay!

...Y'know what, no, we don't have to take this, we can take you too!
That's...pretty reasonable, honestly.
No objections.

Then let's get it onne!
...Onne?
I saw a poster that spelled it like that. It gives it more oomph.

Not much to add here. Siren Song is ass.

Quixote, quickly!

...
...
...
...That was your cue...
Sometimes the most frightful thing is silence.

'Kay, who wants a beatin'?
Ohhhh, Siggy, there you are~
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Oh, dear, what did my insipid alter ego get you all into now?
Okay, actually, I like you, whoever you are. Can you stick around?
Sadly not, dear Judith.

Look alive, pal!
Do you mind? We're in the middle of something, Siggy and I~

RAAAAAA this is the worst idea I've ever had.

...Yeah, worst...idea...
Splat! Arm Bind sucks.
There. Now, Siggy, where were we~

Agh... You brutish...woman...

...
Are you not terrified?
You had nothing to do with that.

Aaaaaaaoogh... God, resurrection sickness is the worst...
I'm still looking into medication for mitigating it.

Gah...rrrrgh... I'm...going to RIP YOU APART!
'Ey, save some for me!
Good...lords...

Heads up, moron!

Leave us alone, already~

Sweet...release...

Keep calm, Elowen, keep calm, keep calm...

Ow, Siggy~

Quixote returns!

Good night, Siggy... Love...you...

Come on.
meatball_parade.mp3

Okay, no, really, this has to stop.

Down to my last stupid Nectar. Might as well get Quixote up...

You can't keep a master of fear dead for long!

Thank god for Thierry's comically-big surplus of HP.

Hurry, hurry, drink drink drink!

Try that again, I dare you.

...Okay, that's secured me a good chance at actually getting out of this.

...We're quite the sturdy group, aren't we?
Evidently.

That's...good! Like, that's unambiguously good, especially given that it's effectively coming from a Hexer!

Rest. Please.

I Formaldehyded the Vine Strand. Frankly, I deserve it.
Getting it otherwise is absurd anyways.

Yeah, uh, let's go save after that.
Faerie Bow (+102 ATK, +3 AGI) is made from 2 Faerie Pitches (Faerie rare) and 4 Faerie Wings (Pixie/Faerie normal). Costs 12200 en.

Nine Tails (+109 ATK, +2 TEC, +2 AGI) is made from 1 Purple Thread (Diabolix normal). Costs 13600 en.
+2 TEC? +2 AGI? That's a pretty damn good whip.
Oomiyari (+118 ATK, +2 VIT) is made from 1 Red String (Cruella normal) and 10 Steel Chips (4th Stratum Mine 1). Costs 16400 en.

Faerie Boot (+18 DEF, +5 AGI) is made from 5 Faerie Wings (Pixie/Faerie normal). Costs 2740 en.
Oh, +5 AGI. Okay. That's...a weirdly big boost.

...Man, that's good. Hey, Shilleka, when you finish that, lemme know. I know a certain someone who deserves something that looks that good.
I...thought Sigrid didn't use whips...?
No, but when you see something that looks that gorgeous, you just have to give it to a gorgeous person.
...You're actually quite a genuine, endearing romantic when you're not delivering pickup lines to every woman in the immediate vicinity.
Ehehe, I try.

Mid-exploration equipment swap!

Also, I Formaldehyde'd a Diabolix.

I'm never not gonna wonder who the heck's putting all of these here.
More higher slot Grimoires! Woohoo!

...

...
Your eyes are sparkling!
Gah! Y-Yes, I know, I'm just-- Just-- Ah, forget it.
Dominator (+177 ATK, +30 HP, +1 min Boost gain, +0.5 max Boost gain) is made from 1 Vine Strand (Cruella conditional) and 1 Rose Whip (Diabolix conditional). Costs 136000 en.
So. The Dominator. One of the "ultimate" Whips. Except it isn't. It...really isn't, at least in my opinion. So, lemme go over Boost gain--namely, how simple it is. The game, by default, rolls for a number between 5 and 15. The result is how much Boost a character gains for taking an action, or for when any other party member dies. The Dominator adds a measly 1 to the lower bound, and an atrocious 0.5 to the upper bound. The upper bound's increase, without Boost Up, doesn't even do anything, because EO always rounds down when doing floating point math.

Speaking of Boost Up, let's talk that skill, since my initial hypothesis when I did the class writeup was way off-base.

This is Boost Up's actual effect. It modifies the lower and upper bounds of Boost gain, and...well, again, due to rounding down, it has mixed effects. Several levels of the skill don't even actually do anything due to that. However, at level 10, the effect is...actually reasonably noticeable. Boost Up 10 guarantees you an extra 6 points of Boost per gain, and can potentially result in up to an extra 9 points of Boost per gain.

Now, how does the Dominator affect that?

Strangely, is the answer. Obviously, it adds 1 to all of the lower bounds, but it...basically causes the upper bounds to increase earlier, but not actually provide any increase to the upper bound at level 10 compared to without the Dominator.

In the interest of fairness, here's an alternate opinion from alternate-opinion-haver Angel:
in that case, the dominator seems like a very useful whip to have for parties that take it slow, since it'll let you get multiple Boosted Ecstasies more often and gives your DH more survivability; for a more high-damage party that kills things in single-digit turns, though, I would skip it if something else has more ATK

Here's the other entrance/exit for that weird back alley stuff I mentioned earlier.

Christ, as if stacking Forest Druids wasn't bad enough.

...Do the forest folk keep these mantises as...pets?
Going by the way one of them just smacked it on the head and pointed at us, I'm...going to say yes.

Forest Mystics drag fights out unbearably with Forest Breach. Bring Warrior Song or you'll regret it. Trust me, will you ever regret it.
I don't find these to be quite as bad as their counterparts, but they do not go along well with this current encounter.

Owie...

Owie indeed...
I...deserve this...
I never asked for this...

...Oh, what, I'm not even gonna get eternal rest after death?
Oh dear.
Uhhhhhh Aunt Judith you're not supposed to be here and this was the worst possible time for this.
Excuse me? Aunt?
Listen it's a long story and I've gotta fix the universe right now so I can get back to helping the friends of mine that just brought a baby who's apparently theirs back to our home out of nowhere but I'm sure Dr. Dad can fill you in on the basics of this stuff anyway gotta go!
Dr. Dad?! Thierry doesn't--
She said it's a long story.

Anyway, we're almost at the end.

You can tell we're near the end because this happened.
AHHH

Anyway, this is a pretty simple puzzle, though the timing is pretty tight. There's a Diabolix near the top of the room, and two Cruellas preventing us from going to the edges.

Go go go now now now!
The solution is getting into this spot when the Diabolix is facing away from you.

As long as she's not facing you when you step on that spot, you'll get to the door safely.

What an ordeal...
There's some unmapped side bits, I'll do them later.

B20F isn't really a floor, it's basically a giant boss arena. That's for another day, though.

There are many who never returned...and when I was little, I hated working here. But here I am, taking over the family business. You can never tell what the future holds for you.
You're telling me.

Iron Saker (+116 ATK) is made from 1 Steel Chip (4th Stratum Mine 1) and 3 Damascus Ingots (Forest Warrior rare). Costs 15100 en.

Pixie Hat (+29 DEF, +2 TEC) is made from 1 Faerie Wings (Pixie/Faerie normal) and 4 Sand Cloths (Forest Mystic/Forest Druid normal). Costs 4120 en.

Moon Aspis (+35 DEF) is made from 1 Pearl Carapace (Death Mantis rare). Costs 5630 en.

Who knows... Maybe you'll really be t'ones t'solve all t'mysteries o' t'forest. But t'at means...
...
Ah, never y'mind. I'm t'inkin' too hard about it.

If the rest of the world thought like me... I would probably go mad.
Some self-awareness, hm?

When I worked at the Sheldon manor, there were many of us, each with our own task. But I enjoy being able to do it all.

By the way, here's that Grimoire from earlier. The skills aren't good, but a free 6-slot Grimoire is very hard to pass up.

Went straight for the quests this time. Don't really remember why.

Medicine woman II:
Decided to take the request, have you? Good, I've been hoping someone would. The young medicine woman is looking for a particular mushroom to go in a potion... The Cordyceps. It's a rare fungus that can only be found deep in the Labyrinth, so she can't collect it herself. Good luck, then.

The pub's pretty empty today, huh?

Small old lady:
Adventuring is a lonely business. I haven't seen Visil at all lately. Is he busy...?
Frankly? I don't know, and I wish he's rotting in a hole somewhere.
I used to see him taking a stroll around noon... Sometimes, he would be talking with some young ones. But that just stopped... It makes me feel lonely. I used to go out to see him... Is he not feeling well?
I'm reasonably confident something is wrong with him, yes.

...
We'd...rather not go into it...
Most of our guild is presently undergoing intense internal emotional turmoil.
I'm sure adventurers as skilled as you have problems besides surviving in the Labyrinth. Well, if you don't want to talk about it, sit yourselves down and have a drink.

Maybe that's the reason why I'll never be able to let the Labyrinth go.
It's not going to last forever...

Rot in the deepest hell. You and the rest of the Radha have the blood of countless explorers and forest folk on your hands.
...
...Placid-faced scum.
Hm?
Nothing!
Something something Nuremberg defense.

At this point, I switched to grinding to get materials I need to clear out the quest log.

I wonder how he plans to prepare it. Anyway, keep up the good work.

Ugh.

Didn't spend these yet.

Ah, the knowledge behind my applications of fear, coalesced into one gem!
While grinding for goddamned Gold Antlers, I got this. This...can actually save Quixote around 19 SP, if I'm willing to give up him knowing Suicide Word, which...y'know, I kinda am.

In any case, a few quick fusions later, and his Grimoire now looks like this.

Several minutes later...

I want to punch whoever this Golden Baron is.
Agreed.
Replace "punch" with "give a stern talking to," then I'd agree.
I've killed more deer in the past few hours than I have in my entire life before now...
So this is a Gold Antler... It IS very pretty... But I would probably refrain from displaying that in my house, wouldn't you? Thank you for taking the job. Here's your reward.

...
I'm pretty sure this would disintegrate as soon as one of us took a step in it.
The Gold Shoe is a joke item. +1 DEF, and +25% paralysis resistance.

Still didn't spend it.

The Byeahs then went out and got my a Cordyceps.

It's a very strange-looking thing...
Well, that's to be expected from fungus that grows on an insect.
It grows from an insect?! ...I pray I never have to use that medicine.

...Oh, alright, fine, I'll take care of this too.

Medicine woman III:
Decided to take the request, have you? Good, I've been hoping someone would. A young medicine maker has created a potion that reverses petrification... Or so she thinks. She posted this job to find out if it actually works. She wants you to bring her an adventurer who has been petrified. I've heard that there's a monster on B19F that uses a petrification skill. I know it just feels wrong to get one of your party petrified on purpose, but it's for a good cause. Good luck.
Oh, come on.
I've had enough being petrified for the rest of eternity, thank you...

Sorry, Momoe...

...Why does she need a potion for this, again?
I'm quite capable of treating petrification already.
Hell, Theriacas take care of it just fine.
...The petrification isn't reversing... I don't think this potion works. I'm sorry about this, but failure is always the best teacher. Don't get angry at her, okay? Here's your reward. Hurry up and get that healed.

And that...does it for now. What a massive update, good lord.

Anyway, next time: Iwaoropenelep. That's right, we're going straight to a boss fight! It's like Corotrangul all over again!
