Update 38: Guild Tenebris VS. A Computer (M.I.K.E.)

Ugh, what the fuck is that noise?!
...Oh, fie.
Did Other Quixote summon a monster again?
I'm afraid so.
[Godsdammit, I thought we were done.]
That's gotta be one heck of a monster that we can hear it here...
Well, I suppose we've one more fight to handle.

So, while Etreant is the end of the main story for Classic mode, Story mode has one more actual fight to take care of (also a cutscene fight but I'll let Arax handle that in the Story LP): M.I.K.E., the meme machine.

That's my stupid name for him, anyway.

It's like the tank, but even bigger, and with legs.
Old world made some weird shit.
What else is new?

M.I.K.E.

HP: 21480STR: 61TEC: 50VIT: 54AGI: 41LUC: 55

  • EMP: Deals extremely severe volt damage to all party members. Extremely slow.
  • Heavy Gatling: Deals 4-5 instances of heavy bash damage to random party members. Very slow.
  • Particle Beam: Deals severe stab damage that pierces party rows. Slow.
  • Hard Barrier: Nullifies all physical damage to M.I.K.E. for one turn. Counters all blocked damage with overkill damage of the same element that was blocked to all party members.
  • Surge Buffer: Nullifies all elemental damage to M.I.K.E. for one turn. Counters all blocked damage with overkill damage of the same element that was blocked to all party members.
  • Glint: Attempts to stun and inflict blind, paralysis, and panic on all party members, with a low chance. Slightly slow.
  • Overflow: Disables M.I.K.E. for two turns. During this time, M.I.K.E. takes double damage from all sources.
  • Delete: Deals overkill almighty damage to all party members. Very slow.
  • EMP: Deals 250% ranged TEC-based volt damage to all party members. The damage ranges from 296 to 406 on average. Has a 30% speed modifier and a base accuracy of 120%.
  • Random Shot: Deals 4-5 instances of 60% melee STR-based bash damage to random party members. Has no limit on how many times one target can be hit. The damage ranges from 171 to 204 on average. Has a 50% speed modifier and a base accuracy of 90%.
  • Particle Beam: Deals 120% melee STR-based stab damage that pierces party rows. The damage ranges from 342 to 409 on average. Has a 70% speed modifier and a base accuracy of 99%.
  • Hard Barrier: Nullifies all physical damage to M.I.K.E. for one turn. Counters all blocked damage with 150% ranged STR-based damage of the same element that was blocked to all party members. The damage ranges from 427 to 511 on average. Initial prep has priority. Counterattacks have a base accuracy of 99%.
  • Surge Buffer: Nullifies all elemental damage to M.I.K.E. for one turn. Counters all blocked damage with 150% ranged STR-based damage of the same element that was blocked to all party members. The damage ranges from 427 to 511 on average. Initial prep has priority. Counterattacks have a base accuracy of 99%.
  • Glint: Attempts to stun and inflict blind, paralysis, and panic on all party members, with a 15% base chance. The effective chance ranges from 19% to 25% on average. Has an 80% speed modifier.
  • Overflow: Disables M.I.K.E. During this time, M.I.K.E. takes double damage from all sources.
  • Delete: Deals 280% ranged TEC-based almighty damage to all party members. The damage ranges from 332 to 455 on average. Has a 50% speed modifier and a base accuracy of 150%.
  • M.I.K.E. follows a very strict pattern, which can be seen in full by looking at the full AI writeup.
  • Turn 1: Particle Beam.
  • Turn 2: Heavy Gatling.
  • Turn 3: EMP.
  • Turn 4: Overflow.
  • Turn 5: Delete.
  • Turn 6: Glint.
  • Turn 7: Equal chance for either Heavy Gatling or Particle Beam.
  • Turn 8: EMP.
  • Turn 9: Overflow.
  • Turn 10: Do nothing.
  • Turn 11: Delete.
  • Turn 12:
    • Use Surge Buffer if the party's going to use either a fire, ice, or volt attack.
    • Else, equal chance for either Heavy Gatling or Particle Beam.
  • Turn 13:
    • Use Hard Barrier if the party's going to use either a cut, stab, or bash attack.
    • Else, equal chance for either Heavy Gatling or Particle Beam.
  • Turn 14: EMP.
  • Turn 15: Overflow.
  • Turn 16: Do nothing.
  • Turn 17: Delete.
  • The pattern technically loops after this, but you've probably run out of time by this point.
Drops:
  • Normal: Machine Plate. 100% chance. Sells for 12000 en.
    • Galvorn Armor (+77 DEF, +60 HP): Made from 1 Machine Plate. Costs 21500 en.
So, in Story mode, the primary gimmick of M.I.K.E. is that you're on a time limit because the apocalypse is about to happen. I have no way to replicate that, c'est la vie.

Besides that, M.I.K.E. just...hits hard. He's got two kill moves, EMP and Delete, counters that read your damn inputs (Hard Barrier and Surge Buffer), and a disable. He's also an oddity amongst EOU bosses in that he runs on an extremely strict pattern with almost no variation. This lets you counter EMP with Volt Wall in Story mode.

Guess what I don't have.

Dealing with that's gonna be fun.
I've only fought this guy once and it was on a lower difficulty so I could just blast through Story. I'm kinda clueless here.

It's time for Katya and Ladette to analyze this ancient computer.

Break out that tuba, Afon.

Momoe sets up her damage stance.

And Emmett softens the blow of Particle Beam.

Please don't hurt us, strange metal monster.

[Gah, my ears!]
[Sorry, just felt like blowing on this thing extra hard.]

'Kay, Katya, where's the best spot to hit this thing?
Probably the...face? I think that's a face?

Keep steady, keep steady.

Ow.
I think...that worked...

Ladette's close to death, and I don't have any Medicas, and Momoe is my fastest party member, so she tosses out a Somaprime.

These three do expected things.

And Emmett gives us some HP buffer.

Ah, yes, the ancient katana technique: passing out medicine.
Hey, you chose to do it, not me.

Arf!
[What the-- Oh, dammit, Rick, no, go be with Elly!]
Hah-hah-hah.
[...Bleh. If you wanna give moral support, I'm not gonna turn you down...]

Ancient Dragon Explosion!
...No martial arts?
Unfortunately... But hey, I get to make a big thunder explosion with my gauntlets, that's almost as good.

The fuck? That thing's got some kinda rapid-fire gun.
It's...pretty effective... Ow...
Looks like I should take some notes.

Piss.

[OW.]
Rrrr...
Don't...worry, Rick... We'll be okay! I think...
Without Barbaric March, I would've wiped to that.

Go, go, hit it!
Wait, why?
Do you...not hear that noise?

No, but I'll trust you.
That really the smartest idea?
Hey!

Oh.
I knew I heard its innards rattling around.
...Ngh... Fine. Good...job...bard boy.

[Okay, yeah, hit this thing now.]

AROOOOOOOOOOO!
Yes, I agree. AROOOOOOOOOOO!

[Eat it, metal jerk!]

Hup hup hup! Okay, can we fight more monsters that make themselves defenseless? This is fun.

FINAL BLOW!

How'd I do? Did I look cool?!
Very.
Arf!
[What Rick said.]
Well, that wasn't a long fight. Bring some way to get through EMP, and you can probably get through M.I.K.E. just fine.

Oh, right, I forgot to sell Etreant's drop too. Time to fix that.
Galvorn Armor (+77 DEF, +60 HP) is made from 1 Machine Plate (M.I.K.E. normal). Costs 21500 en.

Moss Coat (+49 DEF, +30% fire/ice/volt resistance; can be equipped by all classes) is made from 1 Shroud (Etreant normal). Costs 35000 en.
Both of these are very good bits of equipment, and I maybe should've put Moss Coats on everyone before going into M.I.K.E.. The Galvorn Armor, especially, I could almost make an argument for being the ultimate Protector equipment. Sure, it lacks about 40 DEF compared to the real ultimate one, and it doesn't have the +10% resistance to all physical damage, but it has 50 more HP on it. That is a lot, especially for Protectors using Bravery's Gift.

That's all for now! Just taking care of the first bit of cleanup before starting the postgame proper. Next time: more of that.

So.
So?
What're we doing now?
What do you mean?
Visil's dead. We've figured out the big secret of the Labyrinth. Now what?
...I don't know.
We gonna split up? I got stuff to take care of back in the family.
I...don't know. I honestly don't know. That's something to discuss with everyone else.
...I guess.

Scuttlebutt in the alleys is that there's some kinda other stratum below Shinjuku.
What?
Yep. Yggdrasil's roots or something. No-one's gone in yet, but I betcha there's some deadly shit down there.
...

We shouldn't go now. Everyone else needs a break. But... What if Visil, as awful as he was, was the only thing keeping some unknown horror from coming out of that last stratum and killing everyone?
How the hell would I know?
Rhetorical question. Anyway... Ugh, I don't know when a good time to bring it up would be...
Give it a month, I guess.
...Alright. That'll work.
