Update 34: Please Do Not Attack My House

♪ Anxiety ♪

We have rallied our troops for the purpose of stopping the Adrestian Empire's efforts to rule all.
We have prepared a new flag to fight under...

Beneath this flag, we will bring back peace to the great land of Fódlan!

They must oppose the way of the church.
What is meant by "the way of the church"? What do they dislike about it?
I have no idea what Edelgard was thinking or how she arrived at the decision to raise an army. However, I do have some small insight as to what she is after. She is attempting to destroy the existing social order. That is why the Church of Seiros is first on her list of institutions that must be destroyed. It may very well be her goal to rebuild Fódlan from the ground up...
I see... But that is only Edelgard's desire, is it not?
I cannot imagine that the people of Fódlan would want that for themselves. She may have high ideals, but she certainly lacks any compunction about throwing the world, and its people, into an awful war...
It just seems so illogical!
You have a point, Flayn. I do not believe the people will ever understand her aim.
So long as she makes the people suffer, our Knights of Seiros will fight on and strive to protect them. If we do not defeat Edelgard and retake control of this world, Fódlan's future shall be as dark as night.
Thank you, dear Brother. I finally feel I understand what is going on.
I am always happy to answer your questions, Flayn. Is there anything else you wish to ask?
Well, um... Actually, I have a question for the professor. My brother mentioned that...you slumbered for five years.

At the bottom of a valley.
The bottom of a valley? In the water?
That certainly sounds frigid! I would never choose such a place myself. I am surprised you did not fall ill.

Hm. That is sooner than expected. They must have been spying on us...
I wonder if we can win on our own...

Let's destroy them.
Yes, I agree. Let us take them out in one fell swoop!
Never again will those Imperial scoundrels disgrace Garreg Mach with their presence! Onward, Professor!

Ah, the battle preparations menu, how I missed you.

We have new battle preparations music to accompany Part 2. I don't like it anywhere near as much as As Swift as Wind, though.

Here's our fighting force for this battle. Marianne is Ferdinand's adjutant, Annette is Mercedes's adjutant, and Shamir is Cyril's adjutant.

The battalion guild has a bunch of B and A rank battalions in stock now that we're in Part 2. I don't particularly need any of them right now, but they're the primary sources of some of the really good utility gambits—namely Blessing and Absolute Defense.

Hilda and Cyril get the Knowledge Gems so they can both just be done with Brigand already.

Oooooh man that's an intimidating map. Forest and thicket tiles everywhere, full-on obstruction tiles everywhere, 35 enemies, and not that much space for them.

Some of the enemies drop neat things.

Brave Lance: Requires Lance rank B. 1 range. 10 Mt, 70 Hit, 13 Wt, 25 durability. Attacks twice consecutively when initiating combat. Requires Wootz Steel x2 and 1110 gold to repair.

Brave weapons are expensive to buy and making them through forging eats up Wootz Steel, so I will not say no to a free one.

Magic Bow: Requires Bow rank B. 2 range. 8 Mt, 75 Hit, 9 Wt, 25 durability. Magic weapon. Requires Arcane Crystal x1 and 1000 gold to repair.

I'm...not sure who would really want a Magic Bow, but there you go.

Randolph's got a lot of Atk and that's pretty much it.

General: Nullifies instant death effects and halves damage from enemy gambits.
Axefaire: Grants Atk +5 when using an axe.
Axe Crit +10: Grants Crit +10 when using an axe.

Kind of surprised that he doesn't have some vicious combination of skills on him. It's not like there were a bunch of bosses with theoretically-dangerous skills during the Battle of Garreg Mach or anything.

Let it begin.

Oh, whatever, let's get a move on.

That's an excellent start.

Guess I've got you!

As if that attack wasn't overkill already.

Abby does not hit hard with Nosferatu, but by god if she isn't evasive with it, plus the evasion ring.

Ferdinand has the Lance rank to use the incredibly good lance we got back from Seteth and Flayn's paralogue. For a refresher:

Spear of Assal: Requires Lance rank A. 1 range. 14 Mt, 85 Hit, 10 Crit, 9 Wt, 30 durability. Deals effective damage to cavalry units. Restores 12%/20%/33% max HP every turn; amplified for holders of the Crest of Cichol. Requires Mythril x3 and 2500 gold to repair.

Lysithea warps Hilda straight into too many enemies.

Spare no expense when it comes to wiping out fliers. You leave fliers alive, they will make your life miserable.

Just we like make enemies' lives miserable, I suppose.

The onager misses Hilda.

There.

Killer Knuckles+ sure are good, even on the enemy phase.

They're good, unlike that level.

Phew, that was a busier enemy phase than we're used to.

By the way, there's an endless amount of pegasus knight supporters that spawn near Randolph.

Reminder, on Maddening, these pegasus knights are able to move immediately after spawning.

We have a reinforcement spawn, though, and we want to protect them until they get to that tile.

Trust me, we really want to protect them.

The strong indeed. I'm severely fearful for my luck in the runs after this first one, you don't get a Bernadetta this good without the fates cursing you with an equal amount of bad luck.

We've got some pretty capable soldiers on our hands.

...I should've just used a gambit.

Miss.

Reasonable level from Annette. She'll never be fast, so more Mag is all I can reasonably ask of her.

A lot of enemies want Ferdinand's blood, but the thicket plus his personal skill should keep him safe-ish.

You're making me work.

The lesson here, children, is: do not evade my attacks. You will regret it.

Damn, that's some good evasion from Ferdinand.

Mull on the fact that Ferdinand's evasion here is equivalent to Abby, our primary dodgetank.

Hey, Spd.

Ooh, jesus, some of the enemies are packing Death Γ.

nice

Here is something to believe in!

Time for your last dance!

I can't be the only one who thinks the Meteor projectile looks like an asteroid shaped like a giant hand.

Also, siege tome crits are absurdly fun. Just fuckin' erase some prick on the other side of the map.

Man, my player phases are super bloody these days. We've got some super good units.

The onager hits, dealing 10 damage.

Y... Yeah. You're a little stronger, Marianne. A little.

Man, where the fuck is this luck on my personal runs of this game?

Meh... That's dicey, but I think Seteth can survive.

Ferdinand immediately puts the brave lance to use.

Kablooie!

Oh yeah, Seteth is safe. Somehow these jerks can't double him.

There's the enemy blocking the destination tile downed.

wait why'd they go for ferdinand

The ally unit got to the destination.

Quiet! Don't think you'll get away with mocking me! Attack! Make sure they never speak again!

Now! Begin!

All units, retreat! I'll take on our pursuers! Carry away the injured soldiers!
Enemy AI changes at this point. They'll all head for the south end of the map, and will usually ignore your units unless you actively attack them.

Key word: usually.

Sorry, but this is war!

...I'm surprised that worked.

Are you prepared for this?

...I have a dread feeling that even Death Blow won't really help Cyril too much. Yeah, this is an armored unit, but still.

Ah, sweet, sweet Mag/Spd levels.

This is a good idea.

♪ The Dream is Over ♪

That was a bad idea...

I'm not even sure if this is a tactical error so much as it is a lack of tactics to begin with. Should've checked the falcon knights' Atk before sending Ferdinand right down the middle. Or, y'know, healed him up to something higher than 37 HP.

I'm so used to saying "never get cocky" in response to my own screwups in my Etrian Odyssey LPs. I think this is the first time I've had to use it for Three Houses.

We must stay strong.
Too true, Professor. So long as the Empire is our enemy, we cannot avoid fighting those we are acquainted with. Though I suppose I have it easier since my house is no longer on the Empire's side.
My friends from the opera said they would leave the capital and go west... So, at least I won't be seeing them in battle.
Hmm, I don't think I care if my own house falls. Let's make it a grand fight...after a grand nap of course...
It does not give me happiness to have the people of Brigid involved...but it is not the time to be thinking of that. If it is a possibility, I will be having their strength.
I don't mind at all. Really! I have no friends anyway, and my father hasn't done much to make me care for him.
Not that he'd ever step on a battlefield anyway! Oh, but I do wonder how Mother is doing...
Each of our situations is unique. What we share is companionship and the will to fight as one. Professor, you are the heart of our efforts. We will support you as best we can.
Abby nods.
I have a proposal. It would be most difficult to fight the Imperial army with the forces we have now. As such, I believe we should send messengers to whatever lords we can trust in the Kingdom and the Alliance so that we may gain their support.

I agree.

It is heartening to hear you say that.
If all we do is bide our time, our enemy's main army will come down upon us like a hammer from above.
Who are you planning to ask?
Sadly, House Charon is out. We can trust them, but they have no help to offer.
Oh, how about House Daphnel of the Alliance? I recall that their leader was quite exceptional.
Judith, the Hero of Daphnel... Yes, that is a fine suggestion. That territory is on the border of the Kingdom and the Alliance. It has not yet been claimed by the fires of war. If they agree to lend us their troops, our forces will be greatly strengthened. We shall send along a secret messenger at once.
