Alone, you say. Was he safe?

I do not understand. Why are they rioting?
It's obvious, isn't it? Ferdinand, do you really know nothing about Hrym? Your own father was ruling it—you don't know what became of the area once he fell from power?
If it was truly a House Aegir territory, I would have been trained in governing the area.
But my father insisted that I have nothing to do with Hrym.
But now is not the time to talk about this. We have to help him before he gets caught up in the violence.

It seems better to simply hold the line against the enemies in the north, and focus our efforts on saving the citizens in the east and south.
I would consider that a sound basic strategy, if the enemies to the north didn't move.

Right off the bat, a lot of the map is a danger area. I'm especially not a fan of Lysithea being a few tiles away from that warrior's range.

And Ferdinand has just enough Mv left to block that chokepoint.

Which leaves Lysithea enough space to create an opening to hell, sending this guy to his certain doom.

Does this count as hell on earth? Is there enough heat in that purple vortex to create a human barbeque? This demands further investigation. You, yes, you, the one reading this: go to it.

Father, no! So, we were too late after all...

Ferdinand starts crying.

Ooh, yes, come to mama. You only get the following two things if you saved every blue tile.

Lance of Zoltan: Requires Lance rank A. 1 range. 15 Mt, 80 Hit, 10 Wt, 20 durability. Requires Wootz Steel x4 and 2500 gold to repair.

The Lance of Zoltan, unforged, is a slightly better silver lance.

Lance of Zoltan+: Requires Lance rank A. 1 range. 18 Mt, 80 Hit, 5 Crit, 10 Wt, 25 durability. Requires Wootz Steel x6 and 3750 gold to repair.

The Lance of Zoltan, forged, has the most Mt of any non-Hero's Relic lance. It beats Lúin by 1 Mt, and only loses to Areadbahr and the Lance of Ruin by 1 and 3 Mt, respcetively.

We also get this.

Ochain Shield: +6 Prt, 4 Wt. Nullifies critical hits against the user. Restores 12%/20%/33% of the user's maximum HP every turn; amplified for holders of the Crest of Cichol.

This thing is really nifty, as you might guess. +6 Prt for only 4 Wt is not a bad proposition for ol' Ferdie, and the 20% max HP regen he gets every turn goes a long way towards keeping Confidence active. You can also toss this on Seteth if you feel like it, since he gets a whopping 33% of his max HP restored by the regen effect.

The Aegir Astral Knights are one of my favorite battalions. They've got Assault Troop for a gambit, they give +7 Phys Atk at max rank, and a whopping +15 Avo base, +20 Avo at max rank. Slap that on ol' Ferdie and he'll get +35 Avo on top of his natural Avo score, making him an even better dodgetank.

The Ordelia Sorcery Co. aren't as spectacular, but they're good. +8 Mag Atk, +20 Hit, and +6 Rsl at max rank. They've got Resonant Lightning for a gambit, meaning they can shut down a lot of enemies at once.

Please do.
You know about the Hrym rebellion, right?
Of course. The rebellion started when Emperor Ionius IX tried to consolidate power. The Hrym family tried to split off from the Empire and join the Alliance. Working with House Ordelia, they raised an insurrection. The Empire suppressed it. And then a puppet leader was installed in the Hrym territory. House Aegir was tasked with handling the actual governance of the region.
Seeing this, the nobles feared that the Empire would assume total control. That's when the six great noble families chose to wrest power from Ionius IX.
That's right. The Insurrection of the Seven. I've always wondered why it was called seven when there were only six noble families.
It was the six great noble families, plus Hrym.
How vexing. Either way, events unfolded shortly thereafter.
Are you aware of how Duke Aegir was ruling the Hrym territory? He imposed harsh taxes upon the people—much harsher than on his own—making their lives very challenging. People fled their homes in droves to the neighboring Ordelia territory. But they were sent back from where they came. The Empire was occupying Ordelia territory as well, as it turned out. Issues were further complicated when Duke Aegir fell from power. Aegir was dismissed from his position, only to be replaced by Lord Arundel.
Edelgard's uncle, the regent of the Empire...
Correct. And he imposed even heavier taxes on the people, squeezing them painfully dry. The people were conscripted for duty. Any who opposed were killed on the spot.

What?!
Your father was by no means a great ruler.
But it was Lord Arundel who stoked the fury of the people and directed that fury at your father. Duke Aegir is not perfect, but he's not the villain in this.
Lysithea, thank you for telling me all this. I am embarrassed to say, I had no idea.
I see now that it was not his fault. But he did go along the wrong path, and place a burden on his people.
He can no longer atone for what he did, so I will have to.
I need to go think about what I will do after the war. How I will make up for my father's mistakes.
Nothing helps deep thought like sweets.
Hm?
Sweets. They help you think. Perhaps you should find some for us.
I see. If I find some, I will be sure to let you know.

Poor Ferdinand. You don't need to put your father's mistakes on your shoulders, man...
