Wait. What?! Are you really our new homeroom professor?
Is that true? You aren't quite what I had pictured... Oh! Sorry! I didn't mean that the way it sounded.
I was sure you'd be roped into joining the knights!
Don't tell me. You chose this class just to get to know me better, right? I'm flattered, really. Heh, whoops. Now that you're our professor, maybe I should choose my words more carefully.
I don't mind.
Oh? Well, then! Since we're pretty close in age and all, I suppose formalities aren't all that necessary.
One must truly marvel at the exceptionality of this appointment. Becoming a teacher to students almost the same age as yourself. How...unusual. I've heard you are a skilled mercenary, but I cannot shake my discomfort at your new position.
Are you really as strong as they say? Let's see your biceps! I bet I've packed on more muscle than you!
I doubt that. Apparently our new professor was personally recommended by Alois, one of the knights.
As far as skill goes, I saw it with my own eyes. What's more, Teach here is the child of the most renowned former captain of the Knights of Seiros.
I heard! There's no way a child of the captain isn't worthy. It's simply not possible.
The captain? Who are you talking about?
Captain Jeralt, of course! The most notable captain of the Knights of Seiros and a peerless mercenary.
He's not that well known...
Hmph! It doesn't matter what you think of him. Captain Jeralt deserves nothing but respect.
Hm. Well, after working as a mercenary alongside a father figure such as he, I have high hopes for our professor.
Just because someone is special doesn't mean their children are special too, Lysithea. Assuming that a child is going to be exceptional just because of their lineage is a bad idea. Don't you agree, Marianne?
Huh! Oh... Um, yes. I suppose so.
Well, we can find out for ourselves in battle. I can't wait to see what tactics you've learned from the captain.
A battle? Shouldn't we have a welcome party or something first? I'll get the meat!
How savage. I propose a nice conversation over tea instead. I am more than willing to procure some high-quality leaves.
Tea? You can't get to know someone over tea. If there's no meat involved, it's not a party!
Your common sensibilities are grating to my noble ears. Please quiet yourself.
Sorry for the bickering, Teach. As you can see, the Golden Deer House is a rowdy bunch. We're not especially unified. You'll find nobles and commoners alike here. Those who are dedicated to their studies alongside slackers.
But, hey, that just makes your life more exciting, right? I really hope you're looking forward to the year ahead as much as I am.

I mean, Claude, you call the Golden Deer rowdy, but that's no less chaotic than my first meeting with the Black Eagles.
♪ Life at Garreg Mach Monastery ♪

Adan's academy uniform is very sharp, I'm sure you'll agree.

Anyway, we're on New Game+ now! I know I said I wouldn't be doing that in Update 0, but, well, circumstances changed.

In New Game+, you can spend renown to unlock things you gained in previous playthroughs. Most importantly, right at the outset, is professor level. Instantly going to A+ before you've done the initial quests is a waste of 500 renown, though, since you're guaranteed to be at E+ by the end of the day if you're doing everything right.

Also, if you're wondering where all my renown suddenly came from, you get 10k renown per run you've completed across the entire game, up to a maximum of 5 of these bonuses.

So, of course, wasting 500 renown is what I did. I wasn't that great at budgeting my renown on this run, I've never done NG+ before.

You can also pay 400 renown per rank to regain support ranks you gained in previous runs.

Also, you can pay 500 renown to make a unit master a class immediately, which gives them any abilities and combat arts the class learns upon mastering. It does not unlock the class early, though.

Also, you can pay 1000 renown a piece to get a crest sign for a given crest. Crest signs are odd little items. You might think they're equipment, but they aren't—a unit merely needs to have one in their inventory for them to have the chance to activate. Their activation chance is 1/4 what a major version of that crest's would be, or 1/2 of a minor version's. For example, the Crest of Fraldarius has a 40% chance to activate for a major version, but the sign version only has a 10% chance. Oh, and units who do not have crests innately can hold a Crest Sign to negate the 10 HP drain after combat from using Relics. Crest Signs also count for activating bonuses for specific types of crest—for example, a unit holding a Crest Sign of Fraldarius will be given Aegis and Pavise by the Aegis Shield.

You start automatically with a number of crest signs. Some are given based on what run this New Game+ is just coming off of, and they're...roughly based on the units you started with on the last run. In this run, we start with the following crest signs:
You're always given crest signs for the crests of the Four Apostles (Aubin, Chevalier, Noa, Timotheos), plus Ernest and Macuil.

Crest signs aren't worth spending renown on, but I did it anyway. I want to slap my past self. That was 11k renown down the drain!

And now, the biggest gameplay renown sink: rebuying skill levels. You can pay 500 renown per rank to increase a unit's skill level, capping out at whatever max they've reached in that skill before.

Here's another waste: rocketing a skill level to S when you can very easily get that unit to a C rank (if they don't have a strength) or a B rank (if they do). Again, I don't really learn how to spend my renown wisely until Crimson Flower, irritatingly. So now it's Chapter 1 and Lysithea already has Dark Magic Range +1. And Dark Spikes Τ. And Hades Ω.

Also, I got 10k extra renown from picking up my Cindered Shadows completion reward.

This is an extra big waste, even if battalions do carry over from your previous run.

At least I can justify this by wanting to get her Movement +1 before the run is over.

Aaaaaaaagh this hurts to watch!

Mercifully, I reset the game and undid some of the more ridiculous purchases, such as Reason A for Marianne, buying professor level A+ without even getting E+ first, and buying all of the crest signs. Blowing 20k renown by Chapter 1 is still unconscionable, though. I'm leaving my folly in here as an example of what not to do.

As a fragile maiden, I'm useless in battle. I'll just cheer everyone on instead!

The Golden Deer House isn't exactly what you'd call an elite group just yet, so you may want to whip everyone into shape with some extra training. After all, competition is only fun if you win. To that end, I'd better prepare as well.

Here at the monastery, I have had many great learnings from many great people. I am hopeful to have learnings from you too. As forever, I will do my best trying!
